Rava Kichadi | Kichadi

When we do not want to eat idly or dosai or chapathi when opt for kichadi ! initially i prepare the sooji upma or rava upma ! without knowing  the trick – adding extra water wll make kichadi !

simple differentiation ! upma is not sticky and kichadi is sticky and semi solid. All veggies makes it special !


Rava or sooji – 1 cup {Roasted}
hot water – 4 cup
Onion – 1 no
tomato – 1 no
green peas – 100gm
Cashew – 4 nos
green chilly – 2 no
ginger – 1 tsp {grated}
carrot – 1 no
beans – 1 no
cabbage – 4 tbsp {finely chopped}
ghee – 1tbsp
salt – as required
mustard – 1 tsp
channa dal – 1 tsp
urad dal – 1 tsp
curry leaves – 6 to 7 leaves
oil – 2 tbsp


Heat the kadai and add the ghee once heat add the cashew and mustard once cracked add the ginger, green chilly, curry leaves and dal , once it changes it colour add the onion and tomato saute for a minute. then add rest of the veggies and saute for 5 minutes . Then add the roasted rava and required amt of salt and saute for 2 minutes.

Then add the 4 cup of hot water and adjust salt :) mix well and close it for 5to 7 minutes 

now open the pan and mix well  and add the 2 tbsp of oil and keep for 2 more minutes :) now u can see the sooji or rava wont stick to the pan. time to serve !

Enjoy with tiffin sambhar or chutney Some times it wll well go with Pickle!.


  • If the rava is not roasted , you have to roast it before you add :) roast it in the ghee for 2 minutes. i got the roasted rava so did not do that. 
  • 1 cup rava need 4 cup hot water :) so plan the water properly heating 4 cup water may reduce to 3 to 3 1/2 cup ! 
  • not to compromise on ghee part :) it gives the flavour. 
  • you can add any veggies like potato ,capsicum. !
