Kara sev is our family all time favorite ! we would like to take with coffee, tea ,sambhar rice or curd rice ! esp the coarsely pepper , we munch more ! anything home made is best! instead of getting it outside , you can try this easy kara sev recipe !
Gram flour – 4 cups
Rice flour – 1 cup
Red chilly powder – 2 tbsp (adjust the spicyness according to the family wish)
Hing – 2 tsp
Salt – as required
Pepper powder – 1 tbsp (coarsely powdered)
ghee – 2 tbsp
Hot oil – 1 tbsp
Water – as needed to form a dough
Oil – to deep fry
Heat the kadai and add the required amt of oil to deep fry and keep the flame in the low medium! Now take a wide bottomed vessel and add the flours, salt, hing, red chilly and pepper powder, ghee, mix it gently, then add little water and start making the dough , it will be little sticky do not worry, Then add the 1 tbsp of hot oil, and mix gently once dough formed ! Keep aside
Check the oil is ready to deep fry , then take the mould which has more holes, Do not use the one we use for idiyappam because it will be tiny , so use the little big one ! take the required amt of dough and put it inside the machine, and start pressing the machine , make one layer ,
Deep fry it make sure it cooked both sides ! do not over fry it ! allow it to cool, and break it !
the easy snack is ready ! if want store it in the air tight container ! Well go with Hot Tea !
- The actual kara Sev version has different method of frying ! i.e The dough will be rubbed through the big laddle which has more holes ! i am comfortable in pressing method .so used it !
- If u want pepper taste completely You can reduce the Red chilly powder and increase the pepper powder !
- You can even finely powder the pepper and add , if u do not want coarsely powdered one
