Coming to this recipe, Kosambari is one of the neivadhiyam recipe preparing during navarathiri days , Also it is a karnataka staple menu and one of their marriage menu too.
Moong dal – 1 cup
Carrot – 1/2 cup shredded
Cucumber – 1/2 finely chopped or shredded
Coconut – 3 to 4 tbsp
Green chilly – 3 nos finely chopped
Salt – as required
Pepper powder – 1/2 tsp
Coriander leaves – 1/4 cup
Oil – 1 tbsp
Mustard seeds – 1tsp
Soak the moong dal in the water for 1 to 1 1/2 hrs, once soaked, drain the water completely, then take a wide bottomed vessel, add the moong dal, green chilly , shredded carrot and cucmber, mix well , then add the coconut, salt, pepper powder and coriander leaves. Mix well !
If needed temper it with the given ingredients under ” to temper” , All set to taste now after offerings.
- Adding coconut and pepper powder is an optional.
- Moong dal will have raw taste , but while accompanying with other veggies it tastes great, If you do not want the raw crunchy taste, you can always saute the moong dal in the kadai for 5 minutes by adding the 1 tsp of oil .
- In our custom if we offer something to god we wont add Onion and garlic, when u are not offering to God u can add, onion as well as tomato.
