Coming to this recipe, i am not expert in moong dal sundal , most of the time i get smashed moong dal only , then amma told me that you should not pressure cook the dal instead boil it in the hot water , so without any deal i followed her instruction i got the fabulous sundal !
Moong dal – 2 cups
salt – as required
Coconut – 1/2 cup (shredded)
green chilly – 3 nos
hing – a pinch
Oil – 2 tbsp
Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
curry leaves or coriander leaves – to temper
Soak the moong dal for 2 hrs. Once Soaked drain it completely, take wide bottomed heavy vessel. Add 3 cups of water, by adding the required amt of salt and a tbsp of oil, Bring it to boil. , once it is boiling , keep the flame in the low mode then add the moong dal and stir it on and off.
It will take less than 15 minutes, because it is already soaked and we are adding the moong dal in the hot water, so keep your eye after 12 minutes, stir it then and there, heat the kadai and add the 1 tbsp of oil once heat add the mustard once cracked add the hing, green chilly saute till raw smell goes then add drained moong dal and saute for 3 minutes.
Then off the flame add the shredded coconut and curry leaves and mix well.
- Soaking it very important.
- Add the moong dal in the boiled water, otherwise it won’t be separated.
- Then add the tbsp of oil in hot water so that moong dal gets separated,
- Draining the moong dal is very important so drain it completely .
