Preparation Time : 45 minutes (as i calculate the soaking hours too)
cooking time : 25 minutes
Servings – 3 – 4 members
Channa dal – 1 cup (soaked it for half an hour)
Onion – 2 medium size
tomato – 2 medium size
Salt – as required
turmeric powder – 1 tsp
Red chilly powder – 2 tsp
Coriander powder – 2 tsp
Jeera powder – 1 tsp
Kathuri methi leaves – few to crush and add
Corainder leaves – to temper
Oil – 2 tbsp
Mustard seeds – 2 tsp
Jeera – 1 ts p
Green chilly – 2 finely chopped
garlic – 2 pods
ghee – just to drizzle finally for flavor.
soak the channa dal for half an hour and pressure cook the same dal by adding the salt and a pinch of turmeric powder. Once its cooked, allow it to cool completely and mash it, Do not mash completely leave few channa dal as it is ..Also reserve the water we will be using the same for making it as gravy. Then heat the kadai and pour the oil once heat add the mustard seeds once cracked add the jeera,once cracked add the garlic and green chilly saute till they fry. Then add the onion and saute till it turns semi brown.
Then add the tomatoes and saute till oozes it juices, then add the turmeric powder, red chilly and corainder powder along the jeera powder and required amt of salt. mix well now add the reserved channa dal water. allow it to boil. then add the channa dal. mix well let it mix well , Now u can see the spices and dal mixed together and u get the aroma.
now add the crushed kasthuri methi leaves and adjust salt, Now this is a time u should drizzle some ghee on the top of the Dal..
Serve hot with Roti or Rice , choice is yours. Absolutely drooling gravy,
- If u want no garlic and onion you can remove both and do the with rest of the procedure.
- we are adding jeera and jeera powder so caution required and adjust according to the family taste
- Also If u do not find channa dal water just add 1/4 of water for boiling the mixture.
- Make sure it is soaked well and boiled. otherwise u wont find the taste.
