Coming to today recipe, its green gram dal , Though i love to take kadaisal of green gram, making dal out of green gram is in my to do list for long, this time , i wanted it light and rice , so i opted thin coconut milk,this is my very own recipe,and i must say its hit in my family, because i added very few ingredients, yet it is tasty, delicious, and super easy to prepare. The Green gram dal is loaded with garlic and green chilly, its good to have it with steamed rice. Also for Dosai/poori / roti.

Green gram dal – 1 cup (full)
Turmeric powder – a pinch
hing- a pinch
Ghee – 2tsp
Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
Fennel seeds – 2 tsp
onion – 2 medium finely chopped
Green chilly – 3 finely chopped
garlic – 15 without skin
Thin coconut milk – 1 cup to 1 1/2 cup (adjust according to the quantity)
salt – as required
curry leaves / coriander leaves – to temper
Preparation Time :
Soak the green gram dal in a enough water for 2 hours, later strain the water completely, and add enough water and pressure cook the dal by adding the turmeric and hing. Once dal cooked, just smash it .
Heat the kadai and pour the ghee once melt, add the mustard seeds once cracked , add the fennel then saute for 30 seconds, then add the green chilly, garlic and onion and saute till it changes its color.
Once changed,add the coconut milk and keep the flame in medium slowly let it cook .you can see the boiled milk and mushy onion,that time add the green gram dal. And mix well, adjust salt . once everything blend and boiled.
Off the flame temper it with coriander or curry leaves.Serve it for Steam rice / roti / poori
- We are adding only green chilly and coconut milk, so it wont be much spicy , where as it will have nice flavors with garlic and fennel.
- Do not use thick coconut milk as it will be heavy use thin you feel light and tasty.
- I used the split green gram dal you can use whole dal too.
- Instead of Ghee oil can be replaced.
