Cooking time : less than 20 minutes
servings : 3 people
To Roast and grind:
Toor dal – 2 tbsp
coriander seeds – 1 tbsp
pepper – 2 tsp
red chilly – 4 nos
curry leaves – 10 to 12 leaves
ghee – a drop
(actual u use only 2 tsp of powder from this mixture . Rest can be added to your sambhar or next time rasam preparation )
Tomato – 3 finely chopped
Water – 2 to 2 1/2 cups (adjust as per requirements)
hing – a pinch
turmeric powder – a pinch
Salt – as required
coriander leaves – to temper
oil – 1/2 tsp
Ghee – 2 tsp
Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
jeera – 1 tsp
Heat the kadai and pour the ghee once melt add the item given under ” To roast and grind” , saute the ingredients till nice aroma comes or raw smell goes. Off the flame allow it to cool completely and grind in to paste or powder either way it gives nice taste.
Now heat the same kadai and add the 1/2 tsp of ghee and add the hing and few slices of finely chopped tomato and saute for few minutes and off the flame. Mean while add the chopped tomato in the mixie and grind in to paste and add the 1 1/2 cup of water . Now transfer this tomato to the desired vessel and add the sauteed tomato too. Then add the salt, turmeric powder and heat it in the medium flame till one boil occurs.
That time add the roasted powder / paste and other 1/2 cup or 1 cup of water. mix well . Allow it to be in the medium flame till the frothy and nice aroma comes. Add the finely chopped coriander leaves.
Heat the kadai and add the 1 1/2 tsp of ghee , once melts add the mustard seeds one splutters add the jeera or cumin seeds . off the flame. transfer it to the Rasam and mix well . Serve it as Soup or With Hot Rice and potato curry or thogayal or sutta applam.
- After using the roasted powder , u will be finding some left over which can be used for sambhar or next time rasam recipe
- Do add curry leaves which has a unique flavor
- While roasting make sure the raw smell goes.
- You can make it as a paste or powder , paste cannot be consumed so long so make powder and make the required amt in to paste by adding water.
