The irony is i tried the dal recipes it came out very well. But i was struggling a lot to give a name 🙂 Then messaged my brothers wife and told the detailed recipe of dal and immediately she gave me the name 🙂 Thats how Dal E Achar born . 🙂 Do give a try you will like it . I have used mixed dal as toor dal, urad dal, green dal, moong dal and masoor dal . this dal is little flavored due to bay leaf and pav bhajji powder pluse little tangy due to pickle and tomato.
Preparation time : 2 .15 hours
Cooking time : 35 minutes
Servings – 4 to 5
To soak and Boil
Mixed dals – 1 1/2 cup
Tomato – 2 nos
Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
hing – a pinch
To make a DAL
oil – 1 tbsp
mustard seeds – 1 tsp
Bay leaf – 2 leaves medium size
Green chilly – 2 nos cut in to two halves
Onion – 2 medium size finely chopped
Garlic – 5 nos
Pav bhaji powder – 1tbsp + 1tsp
coarsely powdered pepper – 1 tsp
salt – as required
Ghee – 2 tbsp
Pickle – 2 tbsp
coriander leaves – to temper
Mixed dals 🙂
Soak the dal in the water for 2 hours. Then wash twice and pressure cook the dal along with tomato and hing and leave for 3 whistles and off the flame. Once the pressure released mash everything together and keep aside.
Heat the kadai and add the oil once hot add the mustard seeds once cracked add the bay leaf along with green chilly saute for 30 seconds then add the onion garlic saute till the color of onion changes.
Now add the pav bhajji powder and corasely powdered pepper along with required amt of salt with 1/4 cup of water and give a nice mix.
wait till its starts boil, Then add the smashed Dal and keep stirring until everything binds well. Then heat a small kadai and add the ghee. add any two varieties of pickle i have used motherpickles. just give a stir and transfer it to the dal and temper it with the coriander leaves. off the flame leave it for 15 minutes.
Later open the kadai and give a nice stir and serve it for plain phulka or Steam hot Rice.
This is not a Paid post i have received the packets and expected a out of box recipes from their packets. So as this Dal E achar recipes It means Dal in Pickle sounds different right ? So as recipe too !
- I have used 5 dals for this recipe if you can customize as per requirement
- Do use the BAY LEAF it gives the masala flavored taste
- Finally do the tempering with Pickle and leave for some times. which infuse the pickle in the dal.
